Install SashXB | Get Weblications | Help Us! |
![]() |
Follow these simple steps to install SashXB and run weblications. If you're interested, try writing a weblication or compiling the source code.

Step 1: Install the Runtime |
You need the following packages installed on your system to compile and run SashXB. Note that when you try to install SashXB, it will let you know if it's missing any dependencies. Keep in mind that some of the dependencies may require other packages as well. When installing Mozilla, you may want to explicitly remove old versions of mozilla (and your .mozilla/
directory) first. If you're installing over a previous version of SashXB, be sure to run rpm -e
(in RedHat) or dpkg -r
(Debian). apt-get remove
will also work in Debian.
If you don't see your system below, we have more information on installing on other Linux distributions.

Dependencies:

Dependencies:
libnspr4 (>= 1.1) mozilla-browser (>= 1.1) libgdome2-0 (>= 0.7.0) libpanel-applet0 apt-get install libnspr4 mozilla libgdome2-0 libpanel-applet0 will get and install the correct versions.*.deb s, alien can usually convert a *.rpm to a *.deb . |
Make sure you have Mozilla 1.1 or newer installed -- not one of the release candidates or previous versions. Otherwise, SashXB will likely not work!
Grab the Sash Runtime 1.1 RPM (view the release notes). If you've installed a previous prelease version, make sure to remove it and your ~/.sash directory first (this'll be the last time you'll have to do that).
New! Debian packages are now available: Sash Runtime 1.1 DEB. Please try it out. If you have any problems, mail us at sashxb@sashxb.org or post to the mailing list at sashxb-discussion@oss.software.ibm.com. Signed Debian changes and DSC files are also available.
To run weblications, use thesash-task-manager
or invoke sash-runtime [weblication name]
from the command line; it's probably a good idea to familiarize yourself with the runtime.
Bugs: If you run into any bugs, or have any trouble installing SashXB, please email us at sashxb@sashxb.org and we'd be happy to help you out.

Step 2: Get Some Weblications |
NOTE: If you're installing over a previous version of SashXB, remove your ~/.sash
directory before continuing.
Installing weblications from the command line is simple. Installing by clicking on a link would be even simpler, but Mozilla's MIME-type support is completely broken.
Head over to the Weblication Gallery and try out some weblications!

Step 3 (optional): Send Us Feedback |
Please contact us if you have any problems installing SashXB. If we've forgotten to include a particular package in our dependency list (or if one of the links above no longer points to a download site), please email us. If you tried installing and ran into problems, please let us know. Also, if you tried to get SashXB running on a system other than Debian or Red Hat, we'd like to hear about it.
